Any type of project that falls under the purposes of the trust could be supported. It is anticipated that the projects will be of relatively short duration, for example, from two weeks to three months.
Examples of the type of work that the trust might fund include:
- Spending some time in another research laboratory or university department receiving training in a research methodology or technique that will allow them to advance their research project
- Attendance at a short course or training course on a subject relevant to achieving the goals of the student's postgraduate research project.
- Participation in a distance learning course offered by a university in another country that will assist the student in achieving the goals of their research project.
- A study tour of research laboratories which are carrying out research related to the student's own work to provide the student with an opportunity to discuss their research with leading researchers in the field.
- Undertaking project field work or laboratory work in furtherance of their research project.
The trust will not normally fund equipment or attendance at conferences, unless this can be demonstrated to be an integral part of the main purpose of the grant.
